Styled photoshoots in New York City during Carter’s early career. Work from this period was later archived and exhibited at major institutions including the International Center of Photography (ICP) as part of the ICP Projected series, and featured in Antwaun Sargent’s landmark Aperture publication and touring exhibition The New Black Vanguard: Photography Between Art and Fashion, shown at the Saatchi Gallery (London), Maryland Institute College of Art (Baltimore), Detroit Institute of Arts, Sarasota Art Museum, and Fotografiska (Sweden). Carter’s early work was also covered by VICE, IGNANT, It’s Nice That, and Office Magazine.
